We invite you to the exhibition Literary Memory of the Region 1918–2018 (Notable Figures, Places), which is part of a project by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic titled Literary Portrait of the Region 1918–2018 (Northeastern Moravia and Czech Silesia: Figures, Events, Institutions, Places, Texts) (NAKI II, DG20P02OVV020).
The exhibition’s title underscores our conviction that literary texts preserve a unique image of the region, that the actions and utterances of lyrical narrators preserve records through which one can reflect on ways of identifying with a place (with its natural and civilizational character) and on regional identity attitudes that are a reaction to historical events.
The exhibition is grounded in ethnographic, folkloristic, and cultural studies, progressing from the rural to the industrial, from the past to the present, often in spite of political and administrative changes. Contributing to the formation and preservation of literary and cultural memory is not only the urgency of the theme, but also aesthetic quality, rhythm, melody, artistic imagery, narrative, the language of symbols, metaphor, and the uniqueness of the author’s artistic expression.
